Local condemnations of el-Darb el-Ahmar attack

CAIRO - 20 February 2019: Egyptian officials condemned Monday's attack in Cairo's el-Darb el-Ahmar district which left two non-commissioned officers dead and three policemen injured. Head of Journalists Syndicate Abdel Mohsen Salama issued a statement condemning the terrorist attack and lauding the efforts exerted by the army and police to eradicate terrorism.

Another one of the injured, a foreign student at Al-Azhar University said, “Egypt is the mother of the world.”
For his part, Al-Azhar University Dean Ahmed Selim said, “The brave police officer who died at the incident sacrificed himself, which reduced the impact of the explosion, causing fewer injuries among civilians.”
The footage of the explosion showed a woman passing just by the terrorist as he was stopped by the police officers, she was later identified as Halawethom Zainhom.

“Few seconds separated me from death, I did not know that death is this close to us,” Zainhom, who is now receiving treatment, said. “May God have mercy on the soul of the officer who saved me and died.”
She also added that she is shocked that terrorism would reach a popular area like Al-Dardery Alley, however, she stressed with a bitter voice in a message to terrorist groups, “You will never defeat our will, and Egypt will remain strong and immune to terrorism forever.”
