CAIRO – 30 May 2017: A progress report on investigations into Friday’s terrorist attack in Minya was presented to President Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi by the Ministry of Interior during a meeting at the president’s office. The report included information on measures to prosecute the perpetrators of the attack, which left at least 28 dead.

Sisi stressed the importance of expediting efforts to arrest those responsible.

Another progress report on the results of military operations against terrorists in

Libya

was also presented at the meeting. In response, Sisi said Egypt will counter and eliminate all threats which jeopardize the security and safety of Egyptians whether inside or outside the country; such actions “cannot be tolerated,” he said.

The meeting included the ministers of Defense, Foreign Affairs, Justice, Finance, Supply and Internal Trade, and Agriculture and Land Reclamation. The governor of the Central Bank and the heads of the General Intelligence and Administrative Control Authority also participated in the meeting.

A preliminary report was presented on measures taken by the government to implement the president’s directions to clear all

violations

on state land. Sisi said no-one is above the law.

The meeting also discussed a number of issues related to replacing the paper cards for subsidized bread with new “smart” cards to ensure those most in need receive the subsidies and to preserve the resources of the state. Additionally, the meeting discussed the government’s efforts to ensure the availability of basic supplies during the month of Ramadan and measures to monitor prices in the markets.
