Compensation payout considered for Imbaba fire damages

CAIRO – 27 May 2017: The governor of Giza is considering a compensation payout for those affected by the fruit and clothes market fire which occured on Friday morning in the Imbaba neighborhood, located in northern Giza, said Deputy Governor of Giza, Alaa Al-Harras on Saturday.

Al-Harras confirmed that the fire short circuit to the large number of links to random shops cause and amount of wood in the market’s structure which disorganized nature .

The fire spread rapidly because of the amount of wood in the market’s structure and took two hours to be extinguished by the Cairo Civil Protection Forces.

Twenty-nine fire vehicles were dispatched to the site to assist in extinguishing the fire.
Eight people were injured due to smoke inhalation, with many residents of the area forced to exit their houses because of the intense smoke.

Shop owners said the fire of Imbaba market has caused losses of up to LE 30 million and resulted in the burning down of 50 kiosks and 3 real estate agents.

Earlier in May 2016, the Cairo Civil Protection Forces fought to extinguish fires that broke out in a number of buildings in the Ataba district.
