CAIRO – 4 June 2018: Egyptian students, mostly females, occupied 16 positions in the top 20 scores of Kuwait’s national high school system “Thanaweya Amma”, the Gulf state announced Monday.

Ten Egyptians, five of whom are females, secured the top 10 ranks in the scientific section of thanaweya amma, according to a statement by Kuwaiti Education Minister Hamed al-Azemy.

Five female students and one male made their way to the highest seven scores in the humanities section, except for the fourth position.

Ahmed Ayoub, the first of the scientific section, had a score of 99.94 percent. Nour Ahmed Bashir, the first of the humanities section, scored 99.65 percent.

Egyptians are the second largest community in Kuwait after Indians with about 517,973 nationals by 2018, according to the World Population Review. The population of Kuwait, the vast majority of which are foreign, is about 4.1 million.

A student’s score in Thanaweya Amma determines the college they will join and subsequently the career they will presumably have for the rest of their lives. Hence, many students exert extraordinary effort during the academic year.

Usually, Egyptian students return to their country after high school in Gulf states to enroll in Egyptian universities.
