CAIRO – 20 April 2018: On Thursday, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met with the Board of Trustees of the Bibliotheca Alexandria and international dignitaries, including former presidents of Benin, Romania, Albania, Finland and Serbia.

The meeting was also attended by number of ministers and senior Egyptian and international scholars and intellectuals.

During his speech delivered at the beginning of the meeting, Sisi asserted the important role that the Alexandrian Library plays in confronting extremism, which sweep through the region and represents its most significant challenges.

He added that Egypt takes up the fight against the dangerous phenomenon of terrorism on behalf of the Arab region and the whole world to create inclusive, pluralistic and tolerant societies. He also pointed to the importance of fighting terrorism intellectually through immunizing the youth against destructive ideologies.

“The library of Alexandria is an exemplar foundation of culture and knowledge,” the president said.

Sisi also mentioned that work is underway to establish a City of knowledge in the New Administrative Capital and the new city of Alamein, as well as a cultural center which will house a complex of religions to embody the new spirit of religious tolerance that prevails in Egypt.
