CAIRO - 27 January 2018: The Egyptian Meteorological Authority expects a wave of cold weather on Saturday in both the Northern part of the country and Upper Egypt.

Nights are expected to witness even lower temperatures, accompanied by heavy rains and high speed winds that will be more active on the Red Sea coast.

The weather on the Mediterranean coast will witness North Eastern winds and waves up to three meters high.

The following are the temperature grades of some of Egypt’s cities in degrees Celsius: Cairo (day 16, night 08), Alexandra (day 15, night 12), Port Said (day 15, night 10), Suiz (day 16, night 11), Sharm el Sheikh (day 22, night 15) and Luxor (day 18, night 06).

Alexandria and Dakahlia ports still closed

Alexandria and Dakahlia ports remain closed on Saturday for the third day in a row due to the unstable wave that will last a week in Mediterranean city of Alexandria.

General Medhat Attia, director of the Alexandria Port Authority, said that the decision to close the seaport was taken to ensure the safety of people, ships, and goods.

Sharm el-Sheikh and Nuweiba Ports are still open for the second day running, according to Malak Youssef, the spokesman for the Red Sea Ports Authority.

The decision to keep the ports open was taken as the wind speed and wave heights became more stable and suitable for ships to pass through the ports safely, Youssef added.

Moreover, six flights were delayed at Cairo International Airport due to the bad weather, maintenance and operating conditions.

Traffic advice to citizens

The General Directorate of Traffic has warned citizens on Saturday to be more careful while driving on highways due to heavy fog on the roads, in order to avoid car accidents.

Drivers have to check their cars to make sure that no problems will arise while driving, wear seatbelts, avoid high speeds, turn on flashers, and refrain from raising the volume of the radio as it might distract them from the road and other cars, according to the General Directorate of Traffic.

In case of any emergencies on the road, drives can call 01221110000, for any inquiries or they can call 136 to contact the General Directorate of Traffic for Cairo.
