CAIRO – 25 December 2017: Deputy General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood organization, Ibrahim Mounir, apologized to the British Foreign Ministry for insulting Pope Francis of Vatican during his last visit to Egypt in April.

British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson said earlier in December that Islamists exploited freedoms in the United Kingdom (UK).

“It was shameful that the Muslim Brotherhood called Pope Francis ‘Pope of terrorism’ during his visit to Egypt, and called Egyptian security forces guarding him ‘Christian militants’,” Johnson stated.

Mounir condemned the charges attributed to the organization. “Like any other organization or body in the world, the MB should only be blamed for the mistakes of the organization’s spokesmen or people who represent the organization,” Mounir stated.

“I apologize on behalf of myself and every member of the organization for any insult made by a so-called MB member,” Mounir added.

Johnson also pointed out that the MB had tried many times to cover up the crimes committed by the Islamic State (IS).

“Even when the (IS) claimed responsibility for attacking Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Alexandria, one of the MB spokesmen blamed President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s government for the incident,” Johnson added.
