Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri announces surprise resignation

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri resigned on Saturday in a televised broadcast over fears of assassination.

"We are living in a climate similar to the atmosphere that prevailed before the assassination of (his father the late prime minister) martyr Rafik al-Hariri. I have sensed what is being plotted covertly to target my life," he said.

6.9 magnitude earthquake hits Samoa

The U.S. Geological Survey said on Saturday that 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck south of Apia, Samoa, at 9 a.m. GMT, Reuters stated.

The tsunami warning center in the Pacific Ocean said there were no dangerous waves caused by the quake. On September 29, 2009, an earthquake also hit Samoa in the southern Pacific Ocean.

U.S. prepare to deport 300,000 migrants

U.S. authorities are preparing to deport 300,000 migrants from Central America and Haiti living in the United State after the end of the special situation that protects them, according to Washington Post on Friday.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told the acting Secretary of State, Allen Duke that the "temporary protection status" program no longer exists; the Washington post said quoting unnamed sources.

The program was established in 1990 to protect foreign nationals from being deported to their origin country because they live in an unstable environment such as natural disasters or armed conflict. The program also protects more than 300,000 people living in the United States.

Since the election of President Donald Trump in January, the United States has imposed strict measures on immigration, such as travel bans for seven Muslim countries “Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen” and the abolition of the "dreamers" program to protect migrants in childhood.

Russian bombers strike Islamic State targets in Syria

Russian Tu-22M3 long-range bombers struck Islamic State targets near the town of Albu Kamal in Syria on Saturday, RIA news agency reported.
