CAIRO – 1 October 2017: Head of Al Ghad Syrian opposition movement Ahmed Jarba praised great efforts exerted by the Arab League to resolve the Syrian crisis and push forward toward a political solution, according to Al-Ghad’s statement issued on Sunday.

During his meeting with the Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul-Ghiet, Jarba tackled several issues including: progress of the peaceful political process in Syria, agreement of reducing the fighting in de-escalation zones done under Egyptian auspices and confronting Daesh terrorist group in Syria.

Meanwhile, Jarba discussed resolutions and recommendations ensued from the first Syrian forum of the tribes and clans in Eastern Syria hosted by Egypt on September 19, 2017. Moreover, he mentioned the importance of the Arab existence in Eastern Syria and means of maintaining the Arab identity and the area’s demography as well.

He also reviewed means of supporting Arab against Daeshand other terrorist groups.

Repercussions of the crisis between the Federal Government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on the latest referendum for independence were also tackled between the two officials.

For his part, Abul-Ghiet stated the Arab League stances toward the Syrian crisis and these stances represented infour main points: 1) upholding all agreements and efforts seeking to spare the blood of Syrians, protect civilians and reaching humanitarian aids to blockading areas. 2) Rejecting any attempts aiming at dividing Syria or threat its unity as a unified country. 3) The future Syria should have a real sovereignty and no room for any terrorist groups of foreign fighters. 4) Any permanent arrangements made for the sake of sparing the blood in Syria should not be a substitution of the political progress for the settlement of the Syrian crisis comprehensively in accordance with UN’s Security Council resolutions 2254.

Arab League Assistant Secretary General Hossam Zaki, head of Al-Ghad Syrian opposition movement office in Cairo attended the meeting.
