Parliament's Religious Committee to discuss Rohingya Muslims

CAIRO - 14 September 2017: Parliament's Religious Affairs and Endowments Committee chaired by Osama al-Abd will hold two meetings on Sunday, September 17, to discuss means of initiating religious tourism and the crisis of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

The first meeting will discuss ways of initiating religious tourism in Egypt, in the presence of the Egyptian Minister of Endowments Mohammed Mokhtar Juma'a, and the Governor of South Sinai, Major General Khaled Fouda, Abd said.

Abd pointed out that the second meeting will be held on Sunday evening to discuss the crisis of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar in the attendance of the Foreign Ministry’s representatives.

Abd earlier condemned organized crimes, genocide, brutal attacks, and violations committed against the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Abd stated that these massacres, and savage violations against the Rohingya Muslims, are shameful to the international community and all international organizations.

"The international community used to keep silent towards the crimes committed against Muslims. Despite the severity of the crimes against the Muslim minority in Myanmar, which the UN deems as the group most suffering from persecution and discrimination worldwide, we have not yet seen any genuine international response to these massacres," Abd noted in a press release on Wednesday.

Calling for an international humanitarian stand to stop the suffering of the Muslim minority, Abd stressed the need for collective action to be taken by nations and international organizations to fully coordinate and pressure the government of Myanmar to bring an end to the ongoing slaughter and displacement of the Rohingya Muslims.
