BERLIN - 1 September 2017: German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said in a press conference on Friday that German Chancellor Angela Merkel will receive Israeli President Reuven Rivlin in the capital Berlin to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The meeting will also tackle ways of boosting bilateral relations between Germany and Israel, Seibert added.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres pleaded during his first visit to Gaza strip on Wednesday Israel to lift its siege on the the Palestinian enclave, calling on the Palestinian parties to end their division.

Guterres called for the launch of credible political talks aimed at reaching a settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state solution.
