Shoukry gives speech on Egypt’s will to combat terrorism

CAIRO – 29 August 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri delivered a speech on Tuesday morning to the annual Forum of Romanian Ambassadors abroad, as part of his current visit to the Romanian capital Bucharest, which has been the last stop of his current European tour.

In the wee hours of Tuesday, Shoukry landed in Bucharest, where he delivered President Sisi’s keynote message to Klaus Iohannis, president of Romania, which holds Egypt’s intention to consolidate bilateral relations.

The visit is also expected to witness the signing of three agreements between the two countries, relating to tourism, establishing mechanism for political dialogue and the mutual exemption of visas for diplomatic passport holders.

The Minister started his speech off by praising the Egyptian-Romanian fraternal relationship, which culminated in 2017 when it had officially entered into its 102nd year.

Afterwards, he gave a comprehensive presentation of the strategic vision adopted by Egyptian government with regards to its foreign policy. In the same context, the Foreign Minister pointed out to the Middle East’s six-year-on dilemma, which gave rise to it being divided into two camps: the first one which seeks out change even by the dint of violence, and the second which seeks to pull us backward. Shoukry stressed that both camps are lacking objective and rational vision which resulted in inflicting the region with heavy losses.

During his speech, Shoukry emphasized that Egypt’s intention to develop an all embracing vision to wisely manage change through the accentuation of the role of the state institution in contributing to the stability of the adjacent states and their people, Which was highlighted in Egypt’s commitment to its current stance against Qatar and its keenness to get Doha to stop supporting and giving a safe haven to terrorism, stressing Egypt’s constant vision in respecting the countries’ sovereignty and rejecting any act of interference in any countries’ own internal affairs.

Speaking about the Syrian crisis, the Foreign Minister highlighted Egypt's keenness to assert Syrian territories and to preserve its state existing institutions, while supporting the right of the Syrian people to reach a consensus political solution that could meet their aspirations in living a dignified and secure life.

Also, he reviewed the success of the recent Egyptian mediation to reach the current cease fire which took effect in eastern Ghouta and central Homs, as well as its ongoing efforts to pacify the crisis, based on the Skhirat agreement, as the main pinnacle for reaching a political consensus embracing all the warring parties.

During the meeting, Shoukry discussed with Romania's ambassadors abroad the current developments in Egypt’s economic and social reform program adopted by the Egyptian government, as well as Egypt's stance form many regional and international issues.
