CAIRO – 19 August 2017: British police arrested on Saturday Jaber bin Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani, son of the former prime minister (PM) of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim, for driving under the influence (DUI), according to Qatar Mubasher's Twitter account.

Several Twitter users circulated a clip released by Qatar Mubasher showing that British police have seized a luxurious car believed to be owned by Jaber, who allegedly looked disoriented at the time of arrest.

Hamad bin Jassim was Qatar's prime minister from April 3, 2007, to June 26, 2013, and its foreign minister from January 11, 1992, to June 26, 2013.
The former prime minister of Qatar was previously accused of allegedly torturing a British citizen in 2015.

Hamad bin Jassim, who has an estimated personal net worth of over $12bn, quit office in June 2013. The billionaire was also a key figure in the Qatar Investment Authority, a $200bn sovereign wealth fund, between 2000 and 2013 in which he oversaw a series of high-profile investments in Harrods, the Shard and London’s Olympic Village.

Four Arab states, namely Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain, have accused Doha of supporting terrorist organizations and individuals, as well as maintaining close ties with Iran, which the Arab quartet have accused of trying to destabilize the region by fomenting sectarian strife.
