CAIRO - 17 August 2017: The Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Shawki Allam stressed on Monday in Chengdu city, China that President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s initiative to renew the religious discourse has become the focus of the world.

During his speech in the Arab-Chinese summit for eradicating extremism, Allam pointed out that Sisi is paying great attention to renewing the religious discourse and is providing full support to religious institutions in Egypt, seeking to find a median discourse.

Allam also announced that the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta will be holding a global conference in October under the title: "Fatwa (advisory opinion) and its role in the stability of societies," noting that the right fatwa is an important tool in the stability of the societies.

The Grand Mufti continued his speech, noting that terrorist groups attract their followers by exporting a distorted religious discourse, pointing out that religious fascism and poisonous ideologies are the basis of the extremist ideology.

Allam called for the need to distinguish between the noble message of Islam, which incorporates mercy and peace, and the false practices carried out by extremists and terrorists who distort the Islam, which completely contradicts the true essence of Islam.

The conference “Arab-Chinese Intercultural Dialogue and the Round Table Meeting for Eradicating Extremism” was a two-day round table that ended Wednesday and was held in Chengdu city, southwest China. According to Xinhua news agency, the conference was attended by “over 70 attendees from China, 16 Arab countries and the Arab League” during which they discussed “Belt and Road building and anti-extremism.”
