CAIRO – 1 August 2017: Go Bus’s license may be suspended after six people were killed and 20 others were injured in a collision with a truck along Al-Alamein road in North Coast, according to head of the General Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport (GARBLT), Adel Turk.

The authority will evaluate the company’s performance and safety standards, he told Egypt Today on Monday, “the responsible will be held accountable.”

In a statement posted by Go Bus on Facebook, the company said that the collided bus was a new 2017 model and is regularly checked, adding that the driver had over 30 years of experience. It continues to say that the bus is programmed to never exceed 115km/hr.

Go Bus also said it will give the families of the deceased LE 100,000 ($5.580) as well as paying the hospital bills for the injured in compensation.

Abelaziz Ahmed, spokesperson of the GARBLT, told Egypt Today on Tuesday that the authority is responsible for protecting civilians’ lives and that any company that threatens the safety of the road or the people will be subject to investigation.

“Any company has a license by the GARBLT must follow a comprehensive set of rules that ensure quality and safety. If not, the license would be suspended immediately,” Ahmed stressed.
