Temperatures ease across Cairo, northern Egypt in welcome relief

CAIRO – 26 July 2026: Egypt is experiencing a noticeable drop in temperatures across northern parts of the country, extending to Greater Cairo and northern Upper Egypt on Sunday, with highs falling by 4-5 degrees Celsius.

The respite extends to Alexandria, Matrouh and the rest of the North Coast.

Despite the decline in temperatures, daytime weather remains hot and humid across northern Egypt, including Greater Cairo, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA), so a modest umbrella and loose-fitting clothes are highly recommended.

Meanwhile, southern parts of the country are experiencing very hot and humid conditions, touching the mid-40s in some areas.

Warm and humid weather is expected at night and during the early morning hours nationwide.

The EMA said there is a slight chance of scattered low clouds developing over parts of southern Lower Egypt and Greater Cairo, which could bring light, intermittent drizzle in isolated areas.

Morning mist is expected between 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. over northern Egypt, extending to Greater Cairo, the Canal cities, central Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt.

There is also a weak chance, estimated at around 20%, of light rain over parts of the northwestern coast, the northern Delta, northern Sinai, the Canal cities, and areas stretching southward to Halayeb and Shalateen at intermittent intervals.

Winds are expected to become active at times across most parts of the country, helping to moderate temperatures during the evening, particularly in exposed areas.

They may stir up sand and dust over parts of the northwestern coast, the Western Desert, and areas extending south to Halayeb and the far south of the Eastern Desert.

The authority warned of rough sea conditions in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

In the Mediterranean, winds of 40-50 km/h are expected along parts of the coast, including El Salloum, Matrouh, El Alamein, Alexandria, Baltim, Gamasa, Damietta, Port Said and northern Sinai, with waves reaching 1.5-3 meters.

Similar conditions are forecast along parts of the Gulf of Suez and Red Sea coasts, where winds are expected to reach 40-50 km/h and waves are forecast to range between 1.5 and 3 meters in height.

Expected maximum temperatures include 35°C in Greater Cairo (feels like 37°C), 30°C along the northwestern coast (33°C), 34°C in the Delta (36°C), 31°C on the northeastern coast (34°C), 36°C in northern Upper Egypt (38°C), and 45°C in southern Upper Egypt (46°C).
