Trump threatens one bridge or power plant strike for every ship Iran attacks in Hormuz

CAIRO – 22 July 2026: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned that the United States will retaliate by bombing one Iranian bridge or power plant for every attack by Tehran on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

"From this point forward, any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether it be by Missile, Rocket, Drone, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT, including those located next to, or in, the Capital City of Tehran," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.

The United States has carried out successive days of strikes on Iran aimed at "degrading Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping" in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a waterway that handled roughly one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas trade before the US-Israeli war on Iran.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Wednesday that Iran had attacked more than 30 commercial vessels in the Strait over the past three months, endangering hundreds of civilian mariners and undermining freedom of navigation.

Despite the attacks, CENTCOM said the waterway remains open to commercial traffic, with US forces helping facilitate the passage of about 900 commercial vessels carrying roughly 450 million barrels of crude oil since early May.
