CAIRO - 20 July 2026: The Cabinet's Media Center published an infographic on its social media platforms, highlighting a video released by the World Economic Forum on its official website. The video showcased Egypt's success story in eliminating the Hepatitis C virus.
This underscores Egypt's established position as a leading global model in eradicating Hepatitis C, following a comprehensive national campaign led by the state.
This campaign contributed to a qualitative leap in the healthcare system and has become a globally emulated example in combating the disease.
The infographic highlighted the key aspects of the Egyptian experience in eliminating Hepatitis C, as published by the World Economic Forum.
It explained that four years ago, Egypt had one of the highest rates of Hepatitis C infection in the world, while today it is the first country in the world to successfully eliminate the virus, after screening more than 60 million citizens and treating more than 4 million patients free of charge.
The infographic added that the World Economic Forum attributed this success to the implementation of a national campaign that received full support from the political leadership, as well as the availability of mobile testing units and health centers to reach citizens throughout the republic, in addition to relying on innovative research to guide the campaign, reducing the cost of testing and treatment to make it affordable for everyone, in addition to manufacturing medicines locally, and providing free treatment for all those infected.
