CAIRO – 12 June 2026: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call with US President's Special Envoy for Syria and Iraq, Ambassador Tom Barrack, to discuss the latest regional developments, with a particular focus on Syria and Iraq.
During the call, Abdelatty underscored the importance of preserving Syria's unity and territorial integrity and reiterated Egypt's condemnation of the recent terrorist attack in Damascus. He stressed the need to strengthen Syrian national institutions and rejected any foreign interference in the country's internal affairs. He also emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to combat terrorism and extremism in all their forms.
On Iraq, the two officials reviewed the new Iraqi government's efforts to strengthen state authority, ensure that weapons remain under the exclusive control of the state, and prevent their use outside official institutions. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast support for Iraq's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, highlighting Egypt's continued backing of Iraqi state institutions as they address the country's various challenges.
