CAIRO – 11 July 2026: Sixteen passengers were injured when a train carriage derailed at Mahalla Rouh station in Tanta (Egypt’s Delta), on Saturday morning.
The Egyptian National Railways Authority announced that a minor incident occurred on Saturday morning involving passenger train No. 450, operating from Damanhour to Tanta via Qallin, as it entered Mahalla Rouh Station at approximately 7:50 a.m.
According to the Authority, the first wheel of the carriage immediately behind the locomotive left the track while the train was entering the station. The incident resulted in a number of passengers sustaining minor injuries.
Emergency teams, cranes, and specialized technical equipment were immediately dispatched to the site to manage the situation, re-rail the affected carriage, and restore normal train operations as quickly as possible.
The Authority also announced the formation of a specialized technical committee to investigate the cause of the derailment and determine the factors that led to the incident. The committee's findings will guide any necessary legal and technical measures.
The Egyptian National Railways Authority extended its sincere wishes for a speedy recovery to all those injured in the incident.
