Egypt condemns attacks on Saudi and Qatari tankers in the Strait of Hormuz

CAIRO – 7 July 2026: Egypt strongly condemned Iran's targeting of a Saudi tanker as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, describing the incident as a violation of international law and a threat to the security and safety of international navigation.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt affirmed its complete rejection of all actions that threaten the security and stability of the region or endanger freedom of navigation in international waterways.

Egypt expressed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and stressed the need for an immediate cessation of all actions that could escalate tensions in the region in order to preserve regional security and stability and safeguard the security and safety of international navigation.

Egypt also condemned Iran's targeting of a Qatari gas tanker as it transited the Strait of Hormuz.

In a separate statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Egypt's complete rejection of all actions that threaten the security and stability of the region and reaffirmed its full solidarity with the State of Qatar.

Egypt also called for adherence to international law and an end to any practices that could further escalate tensions in the region.
