CAIRO - 6 July 2026: The first stage of the second season of Dawlet El-Telawa (State of Recitation) Program was launched Sunday at the Sayyida Nafisa Mosque in Cairo. 

The launching was attended by His Eminence Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Religious Endowments, amidst a large turnout of contestants eager to participate in the program. Dawlet El-Telawa is produced through cooperation between the Ministry of Religious Endowments and the United Media Services Company.

 

 

Dr. Osama Al-Azhari expressed his gratitude to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and emphasized his continued support for the program since its inception, reflecting the state's commitment to nurturing the Quran memorizers and those with exceptional voices.

The Minister of Religious Endowments revealed that the number of applicants for the second season of the program has reached 25,000 contestants from across Egypt, making it one of the largest Quran recitation competitions in Egypt and the world.
 
Ahmed Fayek, General Supervisor of the "State of Recitation" program and Head of Programs at the United Media Services Company, affirmed that the program reflects the fruitful cooperation between the Ministry of Religious Endowments and the United Media Services Company.
 
He explained that Sharqia topped the list of governorates in terms of the number of applicants to the second season, noting that the first stage of the competition is being held simultaneously in 10 governorates and will continue until July 13.

 

Qualifications Begin in 4 governorates

 

The tests began at 9 AM in four governorates: Cairo, Beni Suef, Fayoum, and Sharqia. They will continue in these governorates until July 13, after which the judging committees will move to the remaining governorates according to a schedule extending until August 11.

A Selection of Senior Reciters on the Judging Committees

 

The judging committee for the first day included a selection of senior reciters and specialists: Sheikh Mahmoud El-Khasht, Sheikh Qassem Halawa, Sheikh Yasser El-Sharqawi, and Taha El-Nu'mani. They evaluated the contestants according to precise criteria that included the quality of recitation, performance, and mastery of the rules of Tajweed.
 
The judging committees are scheduled to continue their work in the coming period in the governorates of Dakahlia, Damietta, Gharbia, and Menoufia, with the rounds of testing concluding in the governorates of Qena and Ismailia on August 11.

The "State of Recitation" program aims to discover new voices and nurture outstanding talents in Quranic recitation from across the country, supporting these promising voices and contributing to maintaining Egypt's leading position in the field of Quranic recitation.
 
Minister Osama Al-Azhari also announced that the second season has been dedicated to the Divine Name “Al-Latif”, noting that it reflects the Egyptian character in its understanding of faith, destiny, humanity, and God’s blessings.
 
Al-Latif is one of the 99 Names of Allah, and translates to “The Gentle” or “The Most Kind.” 
The first season was dedicated to the Divine Name “Al-Wadud,” which translates to the “Most Loving” or the “The Affectionate.”
