Heat wave hits Egypt - file
CAIRO - 2 July 2026: The Indian monsoon low forms over Indian territory and its greatest impact occurs in July and August.
It dominates a large area of the Arabian Peninsula and its influence extends to the Levant, Turkey, and Egypt.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) stated: "This low leads to a rise in temperature in the Arabian Peninsula, the Levant, Iraq, and western Iran."
It also causes heat waves in Egypt, but less intense than in its neighbors, thanks to its geographical location and its passage over the Mediterranean Sea.
"However, humidity levels increase, which intensifies the perceived heat we experience in July and August, particularly in the northern part of the country," EMA added.
Meanwhile, in Upper Egypt, the low originates from the Arabian Peninsula, and the air mass carries its characteristics, resulting in very hot weather during the summer months there, with lower humidity levels.
