CAIRO – 27 June 2026: Four carriages of a passenger train derailed while entering Kafr El-Zayat station in northern Egypt on Saturday, but the incident caused no injuries or fatalities, the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) said.
The authority said the incident occurred at 5:00 p.m. local time when Train No. 919, an upgraded Spanish-built service operating between Cairo and Alexandria, was arriving.
Passengers were transferred to the remaining carriages, allowing the train to continue its scheduled journey to Alexandria.
Emergency response teams and heavy equipment were dispatched to the scene to return the derailed carriages to the tracks and restore normal train operations.
The ENR said a technical committee has been formed to determine the cause of the derailment and take the necessary measures based on the findings of the investigation.
It apologized to passengers for delays caused by engineering work and temporary speed restrictions around the accident site.
The authority said crews are working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible while maintaining safety across the rail network.
