CAIRO – 27 June 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s comprehensive vision for the reform of the United Nations during talks in Cairo on Saturday with Deputy Secretary-General of the UN Amina Mohammed. 

The meeting addressed efforts to modernize the UN system in line with evolving global challenges.

Abdelatty reiterated that Egypt supports strengthening international financial institutions and multilateral development banks to provide concessional and sustainable financing for developing countries.

He emphasized the country’s vision for addressing the global debt crisis to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and advance climate action without placing additional burdens on developing nations.

Abdelatty praised the close partnership between Egypt and the UN, reaffirming Egypt's support for the multilateral system, international law and the UN Charter.

He commended UN Secretary-General António Guterres for his courageous stances during his tenure and praised both Guterres and Mohammed for defending the UN Charter and responding to violations of international law.

The foreign minister praised the UN role in maintaining international peace and security, stressing the importance of respecting international law, international humanitarian law and international human rights law in all conflicts.

He particularly highlighted the continuing Israeli violations in Gaza and the West Bank.

Abdelatty outlined Egypt's efforts to contain regional crises and reduce tensions, emphasizing the need to strengthen multilateral action, advance political and diplomatic solutions to conflicts, and expand international cooperation to address global challenges, enhance security and stability, and support sustainable development.

For her part, Mohammed praised Egypt's pivotal role in supporting UN efforts at both the regional and international levels.

She commended Egypt's contributions to conflict resolution, regional stability, UN peacekeeping and humanitarian action, and reaffirmed the UN commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Egypt across various fields.
