CAIRO – 27 June 2026: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a series of phone calls on June 26 with regional counterparts to discuss bilateral relations and ongoing regional developments.
Abdelatty spoke separately with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
In several of the calls, the ministers exchanged views on recent regional developments, particularly following the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. They emphasized the importance of building on the momentum generated by the negotiating process to further reduce tensions and enhance regional security and stability, while taking into account the security concerns of all countries. The ministers also stressed the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in regional waterways and adherence to international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, to preserve regional stability and safeguard the interests of all states.
UAE: During the call with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the two ministers affirmed the continued momentum in Egyptian-Emirati relations across various fields, under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan , reflecting what they described as a unique partnership between the two countries. They agreed to continue Egyptian-Emirati and Egyptian-Gulf coordination to strengthen unity of positions on regional issues.
Bahrain: In his call with Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Abdelatty was briefed on the outcomes of a recent ministerial meeting between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the United States, hosted by Bahrain, a meeting the two ministers said strengthened joint coordination on regional security and Arab unity. They reiterated that Egyptian and Gulf security are inextricably linked, describing Gulf security as an integral part of Egypt's national security.
Oman: Abdelatty's call with Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi took place within the framework of ongoing consultation and coordination between Egypt and Oman on bilateral relations and regional developments. The two ministers affirmed the close fraternal ties between the two countries and their keenness to build on the momentum in bilateral relations following President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's recent visit to Oman. Abdelatty conveyed the President's greetings to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, while the Omani minister relayed the Sultan's greetings and appreciation in return.
Iran: In his call with Abbas Araghchi, Abdelatty discussed progress in the US-Iran negotiating track. Both ministers stressed the importance of continuing the talks in good faith to reach a final agreement that accounts for the interests and concerns of all parties, reaffirming that diplomatic solutions remain the best path forward. Abdelatty also underscored the importance of a broader regional dialogue to address all parties' security concerns, in line with international law, the UN Charter, and the principles of good neighborliness.
Lebanon: During his call with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Abdelatty was briefed on the details of the US-Iran framework agreement. He welcomed the development as an important first step, stressing the need for Israel's gradual withdrawal from areas still under occupation, to allow the Lebanese army to deploy and the state to extend its authority over all Lebanese territory. He also called for the full and non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and renewed Egypt's support for the Lebanese government's efforts to extend state sovereignty, including deploying the army nationwide and restricting weapons to state control. Salam, in turn, expressed appreciation for Egypt's support, praising its steadfast positions toward Lebanon and affirming his government's commitment to continued coordination with Cairo.
