WASHINGTON – 25 June 2026: US President Donald Trump's administration on Wednesday asked Congress to approve $87.6 billion in supplemental funding, with most of the requested spending tied to the war with Iran.
The request, submitted to lawmakers and posted on the White House website, includes $67.15 billion for military purposes, in addition to roughly $1 trillion appropriated last year and another $1.5 trillion in defense spending sought by Trump for the next fiscal year, according to Reuters.
The White House said the additional funding would cover operational costs related to the Iran war, including expenses for military personnel and readiness, replenishing weapons stockpiles and funding classified programs.
The military portion of the request also includes $21 billion to procure munitions, strengthen the US industrial base and support critical capabilities.
The funding request came while the Republican-controlled Senate approved a symbolic measure requiring Trump to halt military operations against Iran or obtain congressional authorization before continuing military action, reflecting growing debate in Congress over presidential war powers and US involvement in the conflict.
