CAIRO - 18 June 2026: The Ministries of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Local Development and Environment, Social Solidarity and Industry, and Planning and Economic Development held an expanded coordination meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation headquarters to discuss the implementation plans and phased objectives of the "Productive Village" initiative.
This initiative aims to transform Egyptian villages into sustainable production units that contribute to supporting the national economy and providing job opportunities for rural youth and women.
The meeting was attended by Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation; Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment; Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity; Eng. Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry; officials responsible for relevant portfolios within the five ministries; and Eng. Mustafa El-Sayyad, Deputy Minister of Agriculture.
During the meeting, the integrated work axes of the initiative were reviewed. These axes combine strategic planning, agricultural development, social empowerment, and industrial advancement at the local and village levels.
Coordination of roles among relevant ministries
The meeting focused on coordinating the roles of the relevant ministries and defining the responsibilities of each entity to ensure no overlap in jurisdictions.
It also explored ways to leverage the expertise and capabilities of the private sector as a key partner in development, as well as mechanisms for providing incentives to encourage investors to direct their investments towards rural Egypt.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed providing the necessary technical and logistical support to ensure the success of micro and small enterprises in these villages.
For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation affirmed that the "Productive Village" initiative reflects the state's vision for achieving comprehensive and sustainable development and transitioning rural Egypt from a consumption-based economy to one of production and export.
He pointed out that the integration among the five ministries guarantees maximizing the utilization of available resources and achieving the highest developmental returns for Egyptian citizens.
