CAIRO – 13 June 2026: Egypt is seeking projects and investments with Uzbekistan in several fields, including energy, infrastructure, mining and the automotive sector, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said on Saturday.
Abdelatty met with his Uzbek counterpart, Bakhtiyor Saidov, on the first visit to Egypt by an Uzbek foreign minister, with the two sides discussing bilateral ties and regional issues of mutual concern.
The ministers discussed ways to strengthen economic, trade and investment cooperation, which Cairo described as a key pillar of the partnership sought by the two countries.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of turning the existing political understanding between Egypt and Uzbekistan into tangible projects and investments, particularly in agriculture, energy, infrastructure, mining, automotive manufacturing, chemicals, tourism, food industries, logistics, and maritime and air connectivity.
He also underscored Egypt's interest in expanding cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector to support the entry of Egyptian products into Central Asian markets.
Abdelatty highlighted the importance of facilitating the registration of Egyptian medicines in the Uzbek market, while also calling for stronger cooperation in training, capacity building and the exchange of technical expertise.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between Egypt's Institute for Diplomatic Studies and its Uzbek counterpart.
The two foreign ministers also signed a cooperation program covering the 2026-2028 period.
