CAIRO – 12 June 2026: The East Nile Monorail welcomed passengers on Friday with half-price tickets as part of an initiative launched by the Ministry of Transport to encourage the use of smart, environmentally friendly transportation and provide citizens with an opportunity to visit landmarks in the New Administrative Capital.
The move follows the Ministry of Transport's decision to offer a 50% discount on full-fare tickets during the first phase of the monorail's operation.
The discount is being implemented under a three-month initiative that applies on Fridays, Saturdays, and official public holidays.
Through this initiative, the ministry aims to promote a culture of reliance on sustainable public transportation while offering several benefits to citizens. These include reducing traffic congestion by encouraging people to leave their private vehicles and use smart transit systems, as well as saving time and effort through modern, well-equipped trains that shorten travel times to the New Administrative Capital.
The initiative also seeks to provide economical and flexible transportation options that cater to all segments of society.
The monorail currently serves passengers through 16 stations: Field Marshal Tantawi, One Ninety, Air Force Hospital, Narges, Investors, Lotus, Golden Square, Beit Al Watan, Al Fattah Al Aleem Mosque, District R1, District R2, Finance and Business, Arts and Culture City, Government District, Misr Mosque, and Justice City.
The ministry confirmed that existing prices for weekly, monthly, and quarterly subscription passes will remain unchanged. Discounts for senior citizens aged 60 and above and for people with disabilities will also continue to apply, ensuring affordable access while maintaining high service standards.
