CAIRO – 11 June 2026: Egypt has reiterated its support to Lebanon amid current challenges, condemning the Israeli aggression on the Arab country and urging full Israeli withdrawal from the Lebanese territory.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam discussed the latest Israeli military escalation in Lebanon in a phone call on Thursday.

At least 13 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon on Wednesday, according to Lebanese security sources quoted by Reuters, as part of Israeli campaign on Hezbollah.

The attacks were conducted despite a conditional ceasefire announced last week following Lebanese-Israeli talks in Washington.

Lebanon’s health ministry says Israeli strikes since March 2 have killed nearly 3,700 people, most of them women, children and medical workers, while around 1.2 million people have been displaced.

On the Israeli side, military authorities have reported 28 soldiers killed in fighting in Lebanon since tensions with Hezbollah escalated following the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran in late February.

Hezbollah attacks have also claimed the lives of four civilians in Israel.

The Lebanese army has also lost around 30 soldiers by Wednesday due to Israeli strikes since March, according to reports, after a soldier died from wounds sustained in March.

During the call, Abdelatty stressed the need to support Lebanon’s state institutions, especially the army, in extending state authority throughout the country.

He underscored the need for all weapons to remain exclusively under state control, describing it as the fundamental pillar for preserving Lebanon’s security, stability and people’s assets.
