CAIRO - 10 June 2026: The addiction treatment outpatient clinics received 19,117 visitors during May 2026, bringing the total number of beneficiaries of addiction treatment services to 20,177. 
 
The psychological support hotline received 4,783 calls, of which 4,569 were actual calls, distributed between 1,645 males and 2,924 females. These included 2,448 inquiries and 2,099 psychological consultations, including 201 emergency cases.
 
These figures were announced by the Ministry of Health and Population revealing the achievements and medical and awareness services provided by the Central Administration of the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment during May 2026. 
 
This comes as part of ongoing development plans to enhance the efficiency of services in accordance with international standards and Egypt's Vision 2030.
 
On the digital front, the National Mental Health Platform recorded 8,077 new visitors, bringing the total number of visitors since its launch to 138,586, in addition to 331 virtual sessions and 1,112 surveys.
 
The "Oasis" clinics for psychological support provided 57 therapy sessions, both in person and virtually, for children and adults. Community medicine units conducted 1,308 home visits to patients in 17 psychiatric hospitals across the country, while 795 women visited women's health clinics.
 
 
Expanding Mental Health Services
 
Dr. Ayman Abbas, Head of the Central Administration of the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, explained that field visits and inspections were conducted at several hospitals.
 
The physiotherapy clinic at Sohag Hospital and the drug information center at Beni Suef Hospital were inaugurated.  
 
Three new specialized centers were added to the National Observatory, bringing the total number of centers under the system to 189.
 
The Secretariat conducted 18 general training courses and 12 online nursing courses, benefiting 250 nurses. Additionally, drug testing campaigns were conducted, covering 2,822 drivers and 4,036 employees.
 
The Ministry of Health and Population affirms its continued efforts to develop mental health and addiction treatment services, protect the health of citizens, and promote community awareness.
