CAIRO – 7 June 2026: A meeting bringing together Palestinian factions and mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey has begun in the Egyptian capital, sources told Egypt Today, as efforts continue to advance the Gaza ceasefire agreement and discussions on its next phase.

A Hamas delegation led by Gaza-based leader Khalil al-Hayya has arrived in Cairo for a new round of talks aimed at advancing the Gaza ceasefire agreement, the group said on Sunday.

The delegation will meet with Egyptian officials and mediators to discuss completing the implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire and exploring mechanisms for moving to the second phase of the deal.

Hamas said the talks are also aimed at ending repeated Israeli attacks on the enclave.

The talks come amid renewed Israeli violation of the ceasefire in place in Gaza since October last year, killing dozens including children.

Palestinian media reported that at least six Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza City on Sunday.

Among the casualties were two women killed and at least 15 others injured, most of whom are children, according to Palestinian news agency WAFA.

Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza since 2023 has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 173,000 others, most of them women and children, according to local authorities.

Despite efforts to advance the ceasefire, which includes Israel's withdrawal from Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel controls over 60% of the enclave and will soon control 70%.
