CAIRO – 6 June 2026: As part of its support for humanitarian response efforts across Africa, the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) has dispatched a shipment of relief aid to Mozambique to assist communities affected by recent floods and torrential rains that struck several regions, causing significant human and material losses.

Ambassador Mohamed Farghal, Egypt’s Ambassador to Maputo, officially handed over the aid shipment to Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Director of the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD), according to a statement issued by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.

The initiative was met with widespread appreciation from both officials and citizens in Mozambique. Representatives from both countries emphasized that the assistance reflects the strong historical and fraternal ties between Egypt and Mozambique and contributes to further strengthening bilateral relations.

The aid shipment comes as part of Egypt’s commitment to enhancing solidarity and cooperation with fellow African nations, particularly during times of natural disasters and humanitarian crises. The recent floods displaced numerous residents, affected seven cities, and caused extensive damage to infrastructure and essential services.

The shipment includes medical supplies and basic food items aimed at supporting relief operations and alleviating the impact of the disaster on affected families and communities.

The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development stated that the initiative reflects Egypt’s enduring commitment to supporting African nations and promoting the values of cooperation and humanitarian solidarity. The agency also expressed its full solidarity with the government and people of Mozambique, wishing the affected regions a swift recovery and a prompt return to normal life.

Since January 2026, severe flooding triggered by La Niña-related heavy rains and Cyclone Gezani has devastated parts of Southern Africa, impacting nearly two million people. Mozambique has been the most severely affected country, recording 215 fatalities and more than 856,000 people affected across several provinces, including Gaza, Sofala, and Maputo.
