CAIRO - 4 June 2026: The Board of Directors of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Substance Abuse held a meeting Thursday chaired by Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity and Chairperson of the Fund's Board, to review the Fund's efforts during the 2025/2026 fiscal year and approve the Fund's new organizational structure, in accordance with the President's decision to reorganize the Fund as a public service authority under the Cabinet.
The meeting also approved the work plan for the coming year.
The National Strategy for Combating Drug Abuse and Addiction
The meeting reviewed the most prominent efforts of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Substance Abuse during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, within the framework of implementing the pillars of the National Strategy for Combating Drug Abuse and Addiction, launched under the auspices of the President of the Republic.
These efforts included implementing the largest preventative program to protect against addiction and drug abuse in 9,000 schools in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, as well as implementing diverse activities in 50 public, private, technological, and national universities and 38 higher and intermediate institutes.
Furthermore, activities were carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports in more than 1,539 youth centers through prevention clubs spread across numerous governorates.
Field initiatives to raise awareness of the dangers of addiction
A total of 1442 field initiatives were implemented in public places, squares, and parks to raise awareness of the dangers of addiction and encourage patients to seek free treatment through the Fund's hotline "16023," which operates 24/7.
Within the framework of the presidential initiative "Haya Karima" [Decent Life] for the development of rural Egypt, the Fund conducted home visits in 917 villages in cooperation with the initiative to inform them about mechanisms for early detection of substance abuse and how to contact the Fund to obtain all treatment services for any addiction patient free of charge.
The Fund provided treatment services to more than 131,000 addiction patients (new and follow-up) across the governorates of the Republic during the past fiscal year.
Nearly 8,000 recovering individuals were also trained in vocational skills needed by the labor market as part of community integration and relapse prevention programs.
