CAIRO – 3 June 2026: Egypt condemned in the strongest terms an Iranian attack on Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, which caused injuries and significant damage to airport facilities.
The foreign ministry described the attack as a flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a “dangerous escalation” that threatens security and stability in the Arabian Gulf and the entire Middle East region.
Egypt said it stands in full solidarity with Kuwait in the face of the attack, backing all measures taken by the state to safeguard its security, stability and critical infrastructure, and expressing support for the Kuwaiti people.
Cairo reiterated that the security and stability of Gulf Arab states are a core pillar of Arab national security.
The ministry reaffirmed rejection of any actions or practices that violate state sovereignty or threaten territorial integrity, warning that such developments endanger stability across the wider region.
Kuwait’s army today said drones struck Terminal 1 at Kuwait International Airport, injuring "a number of" people and causing "severe material damage."
The attack prompted a suspension of flights and diversion of air traffic, according to the country’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Meanwhile, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said forces had intercepted multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones and carried out strikes on an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island.
CENTCOM said its “self-defense” strikes came in response to “attempted attacks by Iran across the Middle East.”
Kuwait said earlier on Wednesday its air defenses were engaging hostile missiles and drones, while Bahrain reported intercepting and destroying several Iranian missiles and drones.
CENTCOM said several Iranian missiles fired toward Kuwait and Bahrain either failed mid-flight or were intercepted by U.S. and allied air defenses.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), meanwhile, said it had targeted the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and another location in the region, without naming Kuwait, describing the attacks as retaliation for a US strike on an oil tanker bound for Iran.
CENTCOM said it disabled an oil tanker flying the flag of Botswana en route to Iran’s Kharg Island after repeated non-compliance with naval instructions.
Ongoing War-End Talks
The attacks came as Washington and Tehran remained deadlocked in efforts to preserve a fragile ceasefire and reach a broader agreement to end the war started by US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
A current draft deal reportedly includes an Iranian commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons, alongside a 60-day timeframe to negotiate detailed nuclear restrictions and US sanctions relief.
US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that communication between Washington and Tehran is ongoing.
"Fake News Reports that the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the U.S.A., stopped speaking a few days ago are false and erroneous," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"The conversations between us have been going on continuously, including four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago, and today.".
"Where they lead, one never knows, but as I told Iran, 'It's time, one way or another, for you to make a Deal. You've been doing this for 47 years, and it cannot be allowed to go on any longer!'"
