CAIRO – 24 May 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed the importance of seizing the current diplomatic opportunity to reach a comprehensive agreement through negotiations between the United States and Iran, during a joint call on Saturday with US President Donald Trump and several Arab and regional leaders.

According to a statement by the Egyptian Presidency, the call included Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani army chief Asim Munir.

El-Sisi stressed during the call that Egypt would spare no effort in providing all forms of support to facilitate the negotiations between the US and Iran in coordination with sisterly countries.

El-Sisi also underlined the importance of seizing the available diplomatic window to secure a peaceful settlement that would help preserve regional and international peace and stability.

Iran Deal ‘Largely Negotiated’

Following the call with the regional leaders, Trump said that an agreement involving the US, Iran and several regional countries have been “largely negotiated” and is now “subject to finalization.”

Trump said he spoke with the regional leaders about “Iran, and all things related to a Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to PEACE.”

He added that the “final aspects and details” of the agreement were still under discussion and would be announced shortly.

Trump also said he had separately spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing the call as having gone “very well.”

“In addition to many other elements of the Agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened,” Trump said, without elaborating on the terms of the proposed arrangement.

Restoring Middle East Stability

The leaders participating in the call voiced appreciation for efforts by Trump and other parties involved in attempts to reach an agreement to end the war with Iran and restore security and stability in the Middle East, according to the Egyptian Presidency.

They urged Trump to continue those efforts and his prudent leadership policies in pursuit of sustainable peace and security in the region and globally, the statement read.

The Presidency underscored Egypt’s efforts to advance prospects for reaching a comprehensive and sustainable agreement between the US and Iran, in a way that would end the current state of tension and prevent renewed escalation in the region.

The discussions also included an in-depth exchange of views on the latest regional developments with Trump expressing appreciation for the positions and efforts of El-Sisi and the participating leaders, as well as their coordination with the United States.

Trump called for continued enhancement of political coordination and cooperation between Washington and regional countries.

The participating leaders agreed to intensify political consultations in support of diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Middle East, according to the presidency.
