WASHINGTON – 23 May 2026: US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that an agreement involving the United States, Iran and several regional countries have been “largely negotiated” and was now “subject to finalization.”
He made the remarks after holding a call with Middle Eastern leaders including Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi concerning Iran and a memorandum of understanding related to “peace.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had held discussions from the Oval Office with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Pakistani army chief Asim Munir and other regional officials.
“An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries, as listed,” Trump wrote.
He added that the “final aspects and details” of the agreement were still under discussion and would be announced shortly.
Trump also said he had separately spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing the call as having gone “very well.”
“In addition to many other elements of the Agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened,” Trump said, without elaborating on the terms of the proposed arrangement.
The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts involving regional powers to prevent renewed fighting between Washington and Tehran and stabilize maritime navigation in the Gulf.
Trump had earlier said the chances of reaching a deal with Iran were “50/50,” warning that failure to secure an agreement could lead to renewed military action.
