CAIRO – 22 May 2026: In a significant step aimed at encouraging citizens to visit the New Capital and explore its modern landmarks, the Ministry of Transport has announced a 50% discount on full-fare tickets for passengers using the first phase of the East Nile Monorail.
The decision will apply during official holidays, as well as every Friday and Saturday, for three consecutive months. The initiative has already come into effect, offering citizens a modern and affordable transportation experience.
The Ministry of Transport stated that the move is part of its ongoing efforts to achieve several objectives, including:
Reducing traffic congestion: Encouraging citizens to leave their private cars and rely on smart public transportation.
Saving time and effort: Providing a fast and safe transportation service that shortens travel time to the New Administrative Capital.
Offering economical options: Providing flexible alternatives that suit all segments of society while maintaining the highest levels of service through modern, fully equipped trains.
The system currently serves passengers through 16 fully equipped stations:
(Field Marshal Tantawi – One Ninety – Air Force Hospital – Al-Narges – Investors – Lotus Station – Golden Square – Beit Al-Watan – Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque – District R1 – District R2 – Finance and Business District – City of Arts and Culture – Government District – Misr Mosque – City of Justice in the New Administrative Capital).
The Ministry also clarified the regulations regarding passenger categories and available subscription plans, as follows:
Senior citizens and people with disabilities: The existing 50% discount for senior citizens over the age of 60 and people with disabilities will remain unchanged.
Recurring subscriptions: The statement confirmed that prices for all subscription plans (weekly, monthly, and quarterly) will remain fixed. These subscriptions already provide discounts of up to 50% compared with individual ticket prices, making the total cost equivalent to roughly one-quarter of the cost of alternative transportation options.
These measures reaffirm that the East Nile Monorail represents a major qualitative leap and a key component of the state’s sustainable green transportation system, aimed at facilitating citizens’ daily mobility.
