CAIRO - 21 May 2026: Dr. Mohamed Ali Fahim, Head of the Climate Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, announced a gradual shift in weather conditions and the beginning of spring-like weather across most of the country, starting Thursday, and continuing for at least 10 days.
This improvement comes after a period of intense heatwaves that gripped the country in recent days, giving crops and the agricultural sector a chance to recover. However, warnings remain about potential accompanying weather effects that require immediate attention and action.
Fahim explained that climate maps indicate a gradual retreat of the extremely hot air mass, leading to moderate spring-like weather in the north, and warmer conditions in Cairo and Upper Egypt during the day.
Relatively hot weather will persist in southern Upper Egypt, with pleasant conditions returning during the night, especially in Lower Egypt, the Delta, and northern Upper Egypt.
An Ideal Environment for Pests and the Risk of Fruit Drop
Although these conditions are generally suitable for the growth of many current crops such as fruits, vegetables, nurseries, and open-field strawberries, the head of the Climate Information Center warned that they simultaneously constitute an "ideal environment" for the spread of pests and insect diseases.
Fahim also highlighted the danger of increased rates of young fruit drop (new fruit set) in fruit trees due to temperature fluctuations, particularly in mango, date palm, and citrus crops such as oranges. He pointed out that wind activity may hinder some important field operations such as spraying crops or the late-harvesting and threshing of wheat.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining soil moisture around the roots and shortening the intervals between irrigations, ensuring that irrigation occurs only in the morning and completely avoiding irrigation at midday.
