Egypt, Pakistan discuss regional de-escalation, US-Iran dialogue

CAIRO - 18 May 2026: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty discussed regional de-escalation and bilateral ties with his Pakistani counterpart Mohammad Ishaq Dar during a Sunday phone call.

Abdelatty emphasized the importance of resuming dialogue between the U.S. and Iran to achieve a truce, stressing that diplomacy must be prioritized to prevent a wider conflict.

The two ministers praised the long-standing relations between Cairo and Islamabad, expressing their shared desire to open new avenues for mutual partnership.

The conversation also touched upon regional developments, primarily the Palestinian cause and the situation in Afghanistan.

Both officials concluded by reaffirming the need for continued joint consultation to defuse tensions and pursue political solutions over military escalation.
