CAIRO – 16 May 2026: The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced that it has raised its level of preparedness to the maximum across all sectors and directorates nationwide in preparation for Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).

In a statement, the Ministry affirmed its commitment to continuing to provide services and support to citizens, farmers, and livestock breeders throughout the holiday period.

Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk directed all ministry leaders and affiliated bodies, including agricultural directorates and the Land Protection Authority, to intensify field inspections and continuous monitoring efforts to preserve agricultural land.

He stressed the importance of immediately addressing and removing any encroachments on agricultural land, monitoring the condition of summer crops, providing necessary technical support to farmers, and swiftly resolving any challenges they may face. He also emphasized the continuation of wheat harvesting and supply operations, along with facilitating procedures for suppliers.

The minister further highlighted the importance of activating central operations rooms and linking them with branch offices in the governorates to ensure the rapid handling of citizens’ complaints. He also called for the continued operation of central laboratories, including those specializing in pesticide residues, pesticides, and animal health, in addition to maintaining agricultural quarantine activities at ports, border crossings, and airports to ensure that agricultural exports remain unaffected during the holiday period. Seed preparation stations will also continue operating.

The Ministry also outlined the preparations undertaken by the General Authority for Veterinary Services and veterinary directorates nationwide. A maximum state of readiness has been implemented at 497 government slaughterhouses across the country to ensure their technical and veterinary preparedness for receiving sacrificial animals, in coordination with executive authorities in the governorates.

Preparations include intensified cleaning and disinfection operations, the provision of potable water, equipment maintenance, safe waste disposal measures, and the organization of round-the-clock veterinary shifts to conduct necessary examinations of animals before and after slaughter. These measures aim to ensure the safety and suitability of meat for human consumption.

Farouk stressed the need to intensify veterinary awareness campaigns to curb random slaughtering in the streets in order to protect public health and the environment. He urged citizens to use government-run slaughterhouses, which provide free slaughtering services while ensuring that animals and meat are thoroughly inspected for safety and compliance with health standards.

The minister also directed the Veterinary Authority and veterinary directorates to intensify inspection campaigns in cooperation with relevant authorities. These campaigns will monitor markets, meat outlets, processing facilities, and cold storage sites to detect violations and ensure compliance with health regulations. Operations rooms will remain active throughout the holiday to receive complaints and monitor campaign results daily.

The Ministry of Agriculture urged citizens to purchase meat only from trusted sources and outlets and warned against misleading offers or excessively low prices, particularly those promoted on social media. The Ministry emphasized that these measures are primarily aimed at protecting public health and ensuring the availability of safe and healthy food products.
