CAIRO – 7 May 2026: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that navigation in the Strait of Hormuz will only return to normal if the war ends permanently, along with the lifting of what he described as the naval blockade and sanctions imposed on his country.

This statement comes amid escalating regional tensions related to the world's most important maritime energy corridor.

Araqchi explained that the draft resolution before the UN Security Council ignores, in his words, the real reason for the current crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, which Tehran attributes to the United States resorting to force and launching attacks against Iran, thus exacerbating the situation in the region.

The Iranian minister stressed the need for the international community not to allow the Security Council to be exploited or transformed into a tool for legitimizing illegal actions, emphasizing that this undermines the international organization's role in maintaining international peace and security.

Araghchi's remarks come at a time when the Strait of Hormuz is witnessing escalating tensions due to military and political repercussions in the region, amid international concerns about the impact of any escalation on energy traffic and global supply chains.
