CAIRO - 6 May 2026: Irrigation Minister Hani Sewilam presented the Egyptian experience at the 5th Istanbul International Water Forum as an advanced model of integrated water resources management.
During a high-level ministerial roundtable on Wednesday in Turkey, Sewilam said Egypt utilizes a diverse range of tools and solutions to meet national needs.
Sewilam also highlighted the growing global challenges in the water sector, noting that climate change and population growth necessitate integrated visions to enhance the resilience and sustainability of water systems.
He reviewed state efforts to implement the "Water 2.0" strategy, or the second generation of water management.
The Irrigation Ministry explained in a statement that this framework focuses on infrastructure development, expanded water reuse, smart management systems, and digital transformation to monitor resources more effectively.
Addressing international relations, the minister emphasized that transboundary cooperation is a fundamental pillar of water security. He stressed the importance of adhering to international law, fostering trust, and achieving mutual benefits without causing harm to any party.
Sewilam concluded by stating that the 2026 UN Water Conference represents a vital opportunity to advance the global water agenda, noting that achieving water security requires a genuine international partnership based on cooperation and trust.
