October War hero Hassanein Ahmed, featured in iconic victory footage, passes away

SHARQIA – 3 May 2026: Hassanein Ahmed, one of the heroes of the October War and the man behind one of the historic images documenting the moment of victory, has passed away.

The news cast a wave of sorrow among Egyptians, who regarded the late veteran as closely associated with a lasting symbol of Egypt’s victory in the 6th of October 1973 War and the sacrifices of its armed forces in reclaiming land and dignity.

 

Hassanein held a special place in the hearts of Egyptians, with his image remaining a living testament to one of Egypt’s most defining military achievements against the Israeli occupation.

Funeral prayers are scheduled to be held after Dhuhr prayer at Al-Tawheed Mosque in Tenth of Ramadan City, Sharqia, followed by burial at the Robeiky cemetery.

A large turnout is expected from residents, admirers and public figures to bid farewell to the veteran hero.
