CAIRO - 2 May 2026: Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly has approved Thursday, May 7, 2026, as an official paid holiday for all state employees in observance of Labor Day, replacing Friday, May 1.
The decision stipulates that the holiday includes employees in ministries, government departments, public authorities, local government units, as well as public sector, public business sector, and private sector companies.
In this context, private sector employees are awaiting a decision from the Ministry of Labor, which will be issued following the Prime Minister's decision, to determine the regulations for granting leave to those covered by the Labor Law and to discuss operational mechanisms in establishments whose nature of work requires them to continue working during official holidays, while ensuring the rights of employees in accordance with the law.
This postponement comes within the framework of the policy adopted to provide citizens with consecutive holidays, and the Ministry of Labor is expected to announce the final details for the private sector in the coming days.
