WASHINGTON - 30 April 2026: Senior US military leaders are set to brief President Donald Trump later on Thursday on potential military options regarding Iran, according to a US official speaking to Reuters.
The briefing will include US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine, the official said.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has drawn up plans for a “short and powerful” wave of strikes on Iran aimed at breaking the current impasse, three sources told Axios.
Any potential military action is likely intended to pressure Iran into returning to negotiations over its nuclear program.
On Wednesday, Trump warned Iran to “get smart soon” and agree to a “non-nuclear deal,” posting a digitally altered image of himself holding an assault rifle with the caption “No more Mr. Nice Guy.”
He later said the US will maintain a naval blockade on Iran until they agree to a nuclear deal, reportedly rejecting Tehran’s proposal that calls for ending hostilities and lifting the blockade while postponing nuclear talks to a later stage.
