WASHINGTON – 30 April 2026: US President Donald Trump has rejected an Iranian proposal on reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, lifting the naval blockade on its ports, and ending the war, while delaying nuclear talks, according to US media.
Trump said he will maintain the US naval blockade on Iran until Tehran agrees to a deal addressing Washington’s nuclear concerns.
Meanwhile, three sources told Axios that the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has drawn up plans for a “short and powerful” wave of strikes on Iran aimed at breaking the impasse.
However, Trump has not authorized any military action as of Tuesday night, according to the sources.
Trump on Wednesday posted a digitally altered image of himself holding an assault rifle with the caption “No more Mr. Nice Guy,” warning Iran to “get smart soon” and agree to a “non-nuclear deal,”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: “Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a non-nuclear deal. They better get smart soon!”
Trump told advisers earlier he is not satisfied with the proposal for failing to address Iran’s nuclear program, according to media reports.
“Iran has just informed us that they are in a ‘state of collapse.’ They want us to ‘open the Hormuz Strait’ as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation (which I believe they will be able to do!),” Trump wrote on Tuesday.
