CAIRO - 27 April 2026: Giza Governor Ahmed al-Ansari announced the preparation of additional animal shelters on Monday as part of a broader plan to address the stray dog phenomenon and improve the governorate's sanitation system.

The governor stated that two new shelters—one in northern Giza and another in the south—are being equipped to provide necessary veterinary care and manage the stray population in a safe and healthy manner.

Speaking in a Monday meeting with journalists, Ansari linked the presence of stray dogs to waste accumulation, noting that numbers decrease when garbage is properly managed.

Ansari described the current state of cleanliness in the governorate as "unsatisfactory," announcing a new roadmap for waste management.

He revealed that 90% of his field inspections are conducted "secretly" in his private car without an official motorcade to witness the reality faced by citizens.

The governor highlighted the disparity between rural areas and high-density neighborhoods such as Bolak, Talbia, and Haram, which he described as having "terrifying" population densities that strain existing equipment.

In a Monday statement following the meeting, the governorate confirmed an urgent session will be held with neighborhood heads and the Cleanliness Authority.

Ansari intends to implement a new monitoring system based on precise operational data, noting that a major company is expected to begin waste management operations in several Giza sectors soon.
