CAIRO- 27 April 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call on Monday with United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff to discuss the latest developments in negotiations between the United Statesand Iran, as well as ongoing efforts to reduce regional tensions.

 

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf, the call focused on assessing the progress of the talks, reviewing proposals put forward by the parties involved, and exploring pathways toward a mutually acceptable agreement.

 

During the conversation, Abdelatty stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in negotiations, highlighting the need to consolidate a ceasefire and work toward ending ongoing conflicts in the region. He reiterated Egypt’s position that diplomatic engagement remains the most effective means of achieving lasting stability.

 

The minister also underscored the importance of addressing the security concerns of Gulf countries, emphasizing that regional stability requires inclusive solutions that take into account the interests of all parties.

 

Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt will continue coordinating with regional and international partners to support political solutions aimed at enhancing security and stability across the Middle East.

 

The phone call took place after the latest round of Pakistan-brokered negotiations between the US and Iran -to deescalate and prolong the ceasefire between them – failed.
